General information, not legal advice. Time limits apply. Get advice about your own situation.

1. General information only

The information on this website, in our quick checks and in our conversations with you is general information about the NSW CTP scheme. It isn't legal, medical or financial advice, and it doesn't take your own circumstances into account.

Before you make a decision about your claim, get advice about your own situation. For some statutory benefits questions, the CTP Legal Advisory Service can advise; otherwise, speak to an independent lawyer. For medical questions, speak to your doctor.

2. Who we are not

CTP Assist is an independent service. We are not the NSW Government or any government agency or service, and we are not Service NSW or a CTP insurer. We are not connected with any of them.

We are not a law firm or a medical practice. We don't act for anyone.

3. Accuracy and currency

We check our information against primary sources and show a "Last checked" date on our guides and quick checks. The CTP rules change from time to time, and some amounts, such as the maximum weekly payment, are indexed every year on 1 October. So we don't publish dollar amounts that change.

Always check the current rules with the insurer or the scheme regulator before you rely on them.

4. Time limits apply

Time limits apply to CTP claims, and missing one can affect what you receive. For example, the insurer generally needs your claim within 28 days of the accident for weekly payments to be back-paid to the day after the accident, and claims should generally be made within 3 months. You generally have 28 days from receiving an insurer decision to ask for an internal review, and a common law damages claim must generally be made within 3 years.

Contacting us, or using our forms or checks, doesn't stop any time limit running. See CTP claim time limits.

5. Quick checks aren't decisions

Our quick checks and the dates they show are a general guide. They point you to a likely next step. They are not a decision about your claim, whether you can claim or whether your claim is on time. Only the insurer decides your claim, and its decisions can be reviewed.

6. Other services and links

We link to other websites and name other services, such as Service NSW, the Personal Injury Commission, the Independent Review Office and the insurers. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or services.

Lawyers, doctors and allied health providers we introduce you to are responsible for their own advice, treatment and fees.

7. We can't promise an outcome

We can't promise any outcome, amount or timeframe for your claim. Nothing on this website is a promise about what you will receive.

8. Corrections

If you think something on this website is wrong or out of date, please tell us at info@ctpassist.au. We'll check it and fix it if it needs fixing.
