Making a CTP claim for a child or family member

You can help

The claim form lets a family member or representative fill it in for someone else, with a short note explaining who they are and why. Check the form's instructions for who signs.

Everything else works the same way: the Certificate of Fitness, the police event number, the right insurer and the time limits. See the claim form, explained.

Children

Children who were 16 or under at the time of the accident can receive treatment and care for as long as they need it, regardless of fault.

Time limits still apply to a child's claim. The 28-day and 3-month dates run from the accident date, so start the claim early.

Someone in hospital, or who can't sign

If the injured person can't fill in or sign the form themselves, the claim form lets a family member or representative complete it for them, with a short note explaining who they are and why. Check the form's instructions for who signs.

Don't wait for them to recover before you start: the 28-day and 3-month dates keep running. You can lodge even if you don't have every document yet.

After a death

If someone dies in a motor crash in NSW, CTP insurance covers reasonable funeral expenses regardless of fault. The deceased person's legal personal representative (usually a close family member) can apply.

Where the injured person can give it, get their OK before you share their details, including with us. Share only what's needed for the claim.
